Interview with Sean McCormick - Sophomore SS
1 - If you could have dinner with one baseball player (past or present) who would it be and why?
I would have dinner with Derek Jeter. He is such a world-class athlete who, amid steroid scandals and contractual issues on his own team, has always remained a role model and shown integrity in the game of baseball. I would love the chance to meet with Jeter and discuss his game over a nice steak.
2 - In your opinion, what is the greatest (baseball) sports moment of all time?
Despite this event being the obvious choice, I have to choose the Boston Red Sox breaking the 86-year Curse of the Bambino to win the World Series in 2004. Witnessing the Red Sox overcome the Yankees in the American League Championship series, coming back from the 3-0 series deficit, seeing Ortiz's game-winning home run, and watching the unforgettable "bloody sock" pitching performance from Curt Schilling was an unreal sports experience and in my opinion, the greatest sports moment of all time.
3 - What is your favorite sports-themed movie?
My favorite sports-related movie is "Remember the Titans." Denzel Washington puts in a fantastic performance, and this movie conquers so many more topics than just the game of football. This movie characterized a time period full of prejudice and racism, and it makes me thankful for the equality and acceptance that we have today.
4 - Should Pete Rose be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame and why/why not?
Personally, I think Pete Rose deserves to be inducted into the Hall of Fame purely based on his baseball statistics and legacy. Through his 23-year career, Rose won Rookie of the Year, NL MVP, World Series MVP, and two Gold Gloves, while maintaining a career batting average of .303. Stats like these warrant Hall of Fame recognition and I do not believe any actions that do not affect a player's performance in baseball should not keep Rose out of the Hall of Fame.
